The ingredients needed to make Savoury Unniappams.:
  1. Get 1 cup Raw Rice -
  2. Make ready 1/2 cup All purpose flour -
  3. Prepare 1/2 cup Cocunut -
  4. Get 1/2 cup Rice Cooked -
  5. Get 2 pinchs Baking soda -
  6. Get 1 cup Water -
  7. Make ready 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds -
  8. Get 1 teaspoon Chana dal -
  9. Take 1 pod Curry leaves -
  10. Prepare 2 Nos Green Chilli -
  11. Get 2 teaspoons Oil for tempering -
  12. Make ready 1 cup Oil for frying -
  13. Get 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida -
  14. Make ready 1/2 teaspoon Salt -

Instructions to make Savoury Unniappams.:
  1. You will need a unniappam or paniyaram pan to make this recipe.&nbsp;
  2. Soak the rice in water for 2 hours&nbsp;
  3. Grind the soaked rice, cooked rice and coconut with water till the batter is smooth&nbsp;
  4. After transferring the batter to a bowl add the baking soda and leave it untouched for 3 hours minimum, this is when the fermenting happens.&nbsp;
  5. After 3 hours add the all purpose flour or maida along with salt.&nbsp;
  6. Now temper oil using mustard seeds, chana dal, curry leaves, chilli and asafoetida.&nbsp;
  7. Add the tempering to the batter and stir.&nbsp;
  8. Heat the pan and pour the oil. When the oil is semi hot pour the batter to the 3/4 level in the holes. Let them cook for 2-3 min&nbsp;
  9. Once the unni appams rise turn them using a fork or spoon.&nbsp;
  10. Leave them in this position for 2 min and remove from the pan. I use tissue paper to absorb the excess oil.&nbsp;
